Real Madrid 1-0 Liverpool: Goal and highlights - Champions League 2022/2023
Real Madrid have a three-goal lead to protect as they host Liverpool and look to secure their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Welcome to the second leg of Real Madrid vs Liverpool at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Three weeks after losing 5-2 at Anfield, Liverpool will travel to Spain for the return leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Real Madrid.
The Reds took an early two-goal lead in the first game, but Los Blancos managed to complete an impressive comeback and they are the favourites to clinch qualification to the quarter-finals.
After beating Manchester United 7-0 on home soil, Liverpool failed to get past Bournemouth, who grabbed a 1-0 victory over Jurgen Klopp's side on Saturday.
As for Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti's men secured another comeback victory, this time against Espanyol on Saturday. The Catalan side took the lead through Joselu, but Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao and Marco Asensio netted one each to turn the game around.

In every season under Klopp, Liverpool’s Champions League journey has ended either in Madrid or against a team from Madrid, this being the fourth time in six seasons that Real Madrid have beaten Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp was somewhat forced into going for an attacking lineup due to midfield injuries, meaning all of Salah, Gakpo, Nunez and Jota started. James Milner made a rare start alongside Fabinho in a two-man midfield.
An open start to the game saw two outstanding saves from Alisson in the opening 20 minutes; first at point-blank range, Dudek-like, then to tip Camavinga’s shot onto the bar.

Liverpool now have 17 days until their next fixture, away to Man City in a week that also sees them face Chelsea and Arsenal.
Liverpool needed a miracle like we’d never seen before, but it never seemed likely before or during the second leg as Real Madrid again ended the Reds’ Champions League season.
